SOS ~ A STRESSED CHILD
STRESS = TENSION, NERVOUSNESS, FEELINGS OF BAD, SAD, AND PRESSURE
Once stress takes hold of any human being there are physical responses, as well as mental and emotional.
When the nervous system is impacted typically there is a surge of adrenaline that washes over us involuntarily and can cause much distress throughout our mind, body and spirit. It can cause feelings of panic, raise blood pressure, create immobility, and blockage of brain signals or communication between the brain and body.
So, now that we've covered the symptoms of stress, let's focus on that subject in relationship to your homeschool experience, and even more to the point, on how stress is effecting your child.
As a friend once said, " A stressed-out child or mommy can make for a very long day!" In this week's podcast Dr. Jan discusses some of the things that can cause stress in your homeschool life and gives some practical solutions. "Asking you to think differently"- is her mantra.
We look at the total child with the NeuroDevelopmental Approach to Life. One issue that often is not considered are the metabolic challenges. The gut is sometimes referred to as the second brain. When
you're stressed, your gut knows it—immediately. In fact, the enteric nervous system is often referred to as our body's second brain. There are hundreds of million of neurons connecting the brain to the enteric nervous system, the part of the nervous system that is tasked with controlling the gastrointestinal track. When this system becomes imbalanced, it can cause foggy thinking, poor sleep patterns, allergies, frequent colds, as well as opening the door to disease. Another quote, "When we don’t feel well, we don’t deal well."
Metabolic issues can be a significant factor but, if the brain is disorganized that can be a huge stress. Developmental inefficiencies can be addressed. Dr. Jan has studied the ND Approach to Life and implemented it for over 25 years. ND Programs / Activities create connections between the brain and body that brings about better functional abilities for an individual. With the knowledge you gain from the study of this approach, you can hold the key to releasing the full potential of every member of your family.
In this podcast Dr. Jan gives practical solutions for bringing down the stress when doing math and reading. She also reminds us that we are all uniquely created by God, each with our own strengths and weaknesses. God has shown her that He has created our brains in such a way that those weaknesses don’t have to lead to learning labels like ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, OCD and other such limiting conditions.
And learning disabilities or struggles do not have to last a lifetime!
