2. Jump Start Training Program

 

All Program fees paid to Little Giant Steps in advance are non-refundable.

Little Giant Steps accepts checks, money orders and cashier’s checks through the mail.  Visa, Master Card, Discover, American Express and PayPal are accepted as payment through our online store.

Returned Check Fee: A $30.00 processing fee will be charged for checks returned by the bank for non-sufficient funds. Payment for a returned check must be received in the form of cash, cashier’s check, money order or credit card.

Fee Details:

The initial Jump Start 1 program fee is $450.00 plus supplies. If, after the initial four month program, a Jump Start 2 program is selected, the program fee is $550.00 plus supplies. Another option to Jump Start 2 is to travel to an evaluation site for an in-person evaluation for $775.00 plus supplies.

After the participant has experienced an initial evaluation (either individual or video) the re-evaluations are $720.00 (supply fees not included) each four-month period. If more than eight months passes between evaluations the initial evaluation fee of $775 applies.

Payment plans are available after the initial Jump Start 1 program has begun.

ADDITIONAL FEES:

NeuroDevelopmental Supplies: Many of the NeuroDevelopmental materials you will need to implement your program can be handmade; however, we have found that the majority of our clients prefer the convenience of purchasing these materials ready-made. The cost of these materials is typically between $100.00 and $200.00 per family member, per program and varies per individual. 

3. Over the last two decades several reasons have surfaced pointing to the importance of watching the DVD before an evaluation:

  1. Families that have educated themselves about this approach before starting on program are more successful overall.

  2. Time spent in the parent consultation is focused on the individual instead of education for parents about what the results mean.

  3. The test results are more understandable and easily conveyed to other family members which increases success through extended family support.

  4. Confidence is built for the program in which the family is embarking.

In light of this, we have made it a prerequisite to watch The NeuroDevelopmental Approach DVD by Jan Bedell prior to scheduling the initial evaluation. Order the two-hour presentation on DVD from our web store. Ordering and/or currently watching the DVD before sending in your history form for an evaluation is required.

 

4. Yes, the completed History Form as well as photograph of the participant must be submitted before the Individualized NeuroDevelopmental Plan (INP) can be designed.

5. You may mail, e-mail or fax your completed History Form along with a photograph of the client (electronic pictures are welcomed and appreciated).

6. Please feel free to submit electronic copies of any tests completed outside of Little Giant Steps.  This is not necessary but the information, at times, can be helpful to the program writer.  If the participant has been involved with other NeuroDevelopmental programs in the past, information for any prior program activities is appreciated so a more thorough program can be designed.

7. A Little Giant Steps Staff member will contact you via phone or e-mail within 7 days after your History Form is submitted to answer any questions you may have about the Jump Start Program and discuss payment.  After payment is remitted the participants Individualized NeuroDevelopmental Program (INP) will be designed.

 
 

8. You will start with orientation video clips. The full NeuroDevelopmental program will be available within 7-10 days of receipt of the assessment.

9. An Individualized NeuroDevelopmental Program (INP) is a set of activities designed specifically for the client based on the History Form.

  • The length of the program is based on the family’s available time and circumstances. For best results, plan for at least two hours a day, five days each week.

  • The program is designed to specifically address inefficiencies in neurological development: visual and auditory perception, tactile sensitivity and perception, mobility, manual function, speech and language, social development, behavior, and academics.

  • The program of activities is designed to work toward better long term memory, increase processing for short term memory, encourage lower level brain organization for coordination and organized thought as well as supply techniques to enhance academic subjects.

Home school families may request a complete home school program. Programs can also be designed to supplement the curriculum of a private or public school.

The program of activities is a recommendation only and is not a medical, therapeutic or psychological prescription. Plans are based on the training and experience of the Neuro-Educational Specialist and represent our recommendations to the family. Every parent must make his/her own decisions as to which specific techniques and methodologies they wish to utilize with the child.

 
 

10. The parents or individuals who will be carrying out the program of activities will be trained how to perform these activities by watching video clips or reading information on the Little Giant Steps INP website. It is necessary to have a high speed internet connection to view the video clips for your program activities.

Your program will be available to be viewed on the website for 30 days which is typically more than enough time to learn each of the activities.  If you need to view your program beyond 30 days you may reactive your program for $10.00 on the Little Giant Steps store.

 

11. Little Giant Steps NeuroDevelopmental activities are generally implemented 5 days per week with a small number of exceptions. For best results please plan to work on activities two or more hours per day. This does not require a consecutive block of time and some activities can be done independently or with casual observance.

 

12. 18 months is an average time for many individuals to be on program. Each case is unique so times vary.  Individuals with more significant concerns can anticipate a longer participation time. 

13. During the four months between evaluations, a Little Giant Steps support person is available by e-mail and phone to help families be successful in making lasting changes in their child’s life.  If there are any concerns with your program activities your support person is there to assist you.  Expect contact from your support person within 7 days of your full program activation.

 
 

14. Changes vary with each individual.  Some individuals will notice substantial improvements within six to twelve weeks while others will notice a decline before the improvements are seen.  This decline in function resembles a remodeling project that looks worse before it looks fabulous.

15. There are several different categories of activities which will make up the participant’s INP. They are as follows:

Gross Motor Activities

These activities will be similar to Physical Education activities and for some they will be specific movement patterns.  Some families call these activities P.E.  The benefits of these activities include improving:

  • overall brain organization

  • organization of thoughts

  • concentration, memory and learning

  • correct interpretation of the sense of pain

  • appropriate behaviors

  • improves bonding and attachment

  • enhances the interpretation of social signals

  • develops/repairs central nervous system

  • awareness of body in space (proprioception)

  • better balance and coordination

  • the sensory system

  • endurance

  • muscle tone

  • and much more…

Fine Motor Activities

The focus of these activities is to increase finger dexterity and cortical opposition. The benefits of these activities include improvements in:

  • strength in index finger and thumb

  • cortical opposition for pencil grasp

  • handwriting and fine motor development

  • extensor muscles for improved hand strength

  • self-help skills of buttoning, zipping and tying

Tactile Activities

The goal of these activities is to normalize the sensory system in order for the individual to sense their environment correctly.  The benefits of these activities include improving:

  • orientation of where you are in space (proprioception)

  • the sense of pain perception

  • the brain body connection

  • cortical opposition for pencil grasp

  • the sense of light touch

  • the sense of tastes and textures

  • the sense of smell

Auditory Processing and Function

Normalizing auditory function and increasing auditory processing are imperative for efficient learning to take place. The benefits of these activities include improving:

  • auditory short term memory

  • attention span

  • ability to follow directions

  • phonetic utilization

  • reading comprehension

  • listening comprehension

  • maturity level

  • tonal processing

  • timing rate

Visual Processing and Function

Enhancing visual function and visual processing is an essential part of learning.  Benefits are seen in the following areas with improved:

  • eye contact

  • eye convergence

  • eye tracking which facilitates reading with speed and accuracy

  • visual discrimination

  • visual short term memory

  • visualization skills which help with spelling and math

Academic Techniques (when applicable)

Presenting academic information frequently with much intensity and in short durations is a key to efficient learning.  NeuroDevelopmental Brain Training Programs contain helpful techniques allowing you to present information with these three important keys to learning.  Improvement can be anticipated in the following areas:

  • Pre-Math skills

  • Pre-Reading skills

  • Pre-Writing skills

  • Pre-Spelling skills

  • Attention skills

 

16. All Individualized NeuroDevelopmental Programs (INPs) are written by Certified Neuro-Educational Specialists who are able to determine the root causes of many challenges individuals face through the symptoms they are exhibiting.  This is why it is imperative that the History Form and requested assessments be accomplished completely and as thoroughly as possible.
