Once you've established at what level you, or your child is processing; then you order the deck where you are having trouble. Example: If you can only retain 5 numbers easily, then order the 6 digit span deck. Practice as per instructions twice a day for 2 minutes. A child should be able to process the same amount of digits as their age, up to age 7. For instance, a one year old should be able to retain one piece of information - whether it be a number, object or word. A two year old - 2 pieces, 3yr. old-3 pieces, etc. From age 7 to adult; we should be able to maintain 7 pieces of information (digits, words, objects) in short term memory. Unfortunately, with today's emphasis on only developing visual processing; we are finding more and more people having difficulty in retaining information due to their lack of auditory processing practice! What you can't hold in short term memory; cannot be stored in long-term memory, so the digit spans are a wonderful exercise for the whole family! With improved memory; learning becomes easier!
