Neurodevelopmental Screening

A SNAPSHOT OF A

FEW AREAS OF CURRENT

DEVELOPMENTAL FUNCTION

”What is the Difference Between an Evaluation and a Screening?”

answer…

WHAT IS A SCREENING?

Screenings serve two purposes:

1. It’s a snapshot of a few areas of current developmental function. It can show some root causes of academic underperformance. This is a simple assessment we have taught parents for over a decade. It is not designed to answer all questions about you or your child’s difficulties; rather it is to illuminate possible causes. It is a starting point only, not a neurodevelopmental evaluation. That would encompass academic testing and a thorough neurodevelopmental assessment whereby a complete developmental profile would be created. A complete evaluation includes training and support for the family for every four months of intervention.

2. Individuals can gain an understanding of themselves or their child through a screening. We are shifting the focus from looking at the symptoms to looking at root causes and why those symptoms are occurring. It is in finding the cause that the remedy becomes clear. It can be a simple matter of development.

Questions & Answers:

Q. Why do you suggest one person per family to have a screening?

A. The skills and knowledge taught with the first person can be utilized with other members in your family. It’s a part of Little Giant Steps’ focus to help individuals and their children. Time and training offered in the seminar is donated by the speaker.

Q. Why can’t all my questions be answered from this screening?

A. This is not an in-depth evaluation. It is a quick way to check performance levels. For instance, if a child is 9 and is processing as a 5 year-old, we will show you how to resolve that issue during our parent training seminar. It’s up to you to take what you have learned and apply it.

Q. Are there any restrictions?

A. The screenings are designed for adults, teens & children age 6+ with learning challenges or labels like ADD, ADHD, dyslexia or dysgraphia.

There is help and hope for all learning challenges including sensory issues and syndromes but this particular screening service is not designed to address this level of involvement. Please explore our free resources on the website or call our office for more information on how we can support you.

Q. What are the requirements?

A. Attending a seminar is part of every screening event.  The seminar is to help individuals understand their own or their child’s current developmental function and to improve educational experiences and learning. It is our goal to empower individuals to work through what appears to be limiting symptoms. When you know the cause of something, then you are in the position to do something about it.

You hold the keys to unlocking learning potential!
