A SNAPSHOT OF A
FEW AREAS OF CURRENT
DEVELOPMENTAL FUNCTION
WHAT IS A SCREENING?
Screenings serve two purposes:
1. It’s a snapshot of a few areas of current developmental function. It can show some root causes of academic under-performance It is a starting point only for those with learning challenges such as ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia and unlabeled learning challenges, not a neurodevelopmental evaluation.
2. Individuals can gain an understanding of themselves or their child through a screening. We are shifting the focus from looking at the symptoms to looking at root causes and why those symptoms are occurring. It is in finding the cause that the remedy becomes clear. It can be a simple matter of development.
”What is the Difference Between an Evaluation and a Screening?”
Answer…
A Screening – Cost: $25 – Individuals are screened by a certified neuro-educational screener. Then, after screenings are concluded, there is a seminar for teachers and parents to understand the screening results. Remember, this is a snapshot of current developmental function. It can show some root causes of symptoms that can prevent an individual from being able to pay attention, hold information in short-term memory and other issues that can make learning more difficult than it needs to be. The screening is not designed to answer all questions about an individual’s issues; rather it is to illuminate possible causes. The seminar is for parents and teachers to help make an informed decision on a next step to neurological efficiency.
An Individual Evaluation – $675 for the Initial Evaluation – This is done by a neuro-educational specialist but is much more in-depth assessment that encompasses academic testing and a thorough neurodevelopmental assessment whereby a complete developmental profile is created for the individual. From the information in the evaluation, an individualized program is written that contains intervention activities to correct the learning issues/disability. A complete evaluation includes online training and support for the family for every four months of intervention. Full evaluation details…
Questions & Answers:

Q. Will a screening event answer all my questions?
Answer…
A. No, this is not an in-depth evaluation. It is a quick way to check the current performance levels. For instance, if a child is nine and is processing as a five year-old this could affect the ability to follow directions, focus, stay on task and comprehend what is read and heard. Options for resolving this and other issues will be shared during our screening seminar. It’s up to you to take what you have learned and apply it. You will be introduced to several programs that could help you or your child.

Q. Are there any restrictions?
Answer…
A. The screenings are designed for adults, teens and children age 6+, who are gifted, typically developing or are experiencing learning uniqueness or challenges and those actually with labels such as ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia or Dysgraphia. So, can you bring in your three year-old for a screening? No! This is not for them! They must be at least six years of age.
While LGS provides help and hope for all learning issues including sensory challenges and syndromes or brain trauma, this particular screening service is not designed to address higher levels of involvement. With these situations, one is encouraged to consider a full evaluation which will address the specific needs of these difficulties and disabilities.
Q. What are the requirements?
Answer…
If working with a school, a school coordinator should be named to work with the neuro-educational screener in setting up a place and time. The coordinator will handle all parent/school communication [announcements, etc.]. LGS will supply the coordinator with scheduling tips and directions. As individuals are scheduled to be screened, an appointment time is given. (Screenings will be scheduled every 15-30 minutes as per designated screener’s instruction.) If the parent has not paid for the screening, the school coordinator will collect fees prior to the child being screened. If you desire to attend a screening event in your area or sponsor one, please contact the certified neuro-educational screener in your area for details. Please see the list below. Private screenings are also available at an additional cost. You must attend the seminar afterwards! Attending the seminar is part of every screening event and is mandatory for parents to attend no matter whether the screening is done through a school or a screening event in another location. The seminar explains the screened individual’s current developmental function. For those of you who are unfamiliar with neurodevelopment, you will receive an overview of how The Neurodevelopmental Approach works. Recommendations will be made to help maximize the individual’s life experiences and learning abilities through brain training. It is our goal to empower individuals to work through what appears to be limiting symptoms. When you know the cause of something, then you are in a position to do something about it. Because of the knowledge imparted, those who attend the seminar truly hold the keys to unlocking learning potential.
